One last thought.

I would have to say that I really did enjoy everything that I did on 23 things. I will keep learning from this since I will be using these tools in the classroom and I will never forget 23 things. I don't really think there is anything that we could of done differently it was all pretty easy and at your own pace. I will use this in my classroom. I love the idea of blogging. I want to keep it going in my classroom. Thank you Dr. Wall for 23 things and for showing me so many things in 3040.

Thing #23

I will use creative commons in the future with my students by having them know that you cannot steal someone's work. I am going to inform them that it is like them taking all this time to create, write, or draw something and then have someone get online and take it and distort it and make it something that you did not intend for it to be. Therefore, you put a copyright on it because it is your work and you do not want someone destroying your work and then taking credit for your work. My students will understand that they will have to have respect for other peoples work and that actually it is an illegal act to steal someones work. So, I will show them on Google how to search for items that they can use according to how we are using it. If we need to draw on something I will show them how to search for something that can be drawn on. Or if something just needs to be copy and pasted I will show them how to set that preference in searching. If I find a project that has things on it that were licensed and could not of been used I will take points off for that students project.

I chose "Lets get Baked with Matt and Dave" it is a vegan cooking podcast that has music behind it and has them giving recipes. They have a new music person every week that plays and these two guys are actually really fun and likeable to listen too. I listened to this podcast last night and I was listening to all the tasty foods that they were eating and it all sounds DELICIOUS! And it is all vegan which I am trying hard to accomplish. Somedays I do not do well at all in it because of cheese and yogurts but everything they are mentioning that they are cooking feels like I can almost taste it! I like their directions because it is very easy to use and they do not rush in the process. I would create a podcast for my students and I really do think that it would be beneficial for my students to listen to. Also this could be beneficial if I was going to absent for a day they could listen to my lecture over the podcast. And I am subscribing to Matt and Dave today!

Animoto is really the neatest thing I have done yet. I loved going through and picking out some embaressing pictures of my Fiance (husband by next saturday!) and putting them on there. I really got a good laugh about it. I liked how I could share who my friends and family were and I could chose pictures from my pc. Animoto I thought was going to be really confusing to figure out how to put the music all together and how to make it only thirty seconds but Animoto did all of that for me which I thought was really cool infact. I am not much of a person to do these things online because I think it will be too hard for me to learn and I would rather do something else with my time but Animoto gave me step to step rules. One thing that I did not like was how long it took animoto to create my video. I sat at my computer for about 15 minutes.

Before this class (Edu 3040) I was not part of any social communities. Since, joining this class not only have I discovered communities that I had no idea that excisted but I have joined one as well. TeacherPop is really amazing to sum it up. I never knew that there was a community of educators out there in the world on a website that share their life. I really like this website because in a way it is like facebook, which could be dangerous for me to become addicted too. I like how you can update your status and talk with your friends and the whole time you do not have to worry about if someone thinks your profile is bad or has something it is not supposed to or you find someone with inappropriate things on their wall because it is all monitored. Which I really enjoy. I think most things should be monitored and in my opinion that would stop a lot of crime. I could possibly use TeacherPop in the classroom not with the kids but with asking questions to other teachers about advice on how to teach a subject or what would be the best activity. Another social community that I love love love is Bake Space! I LOVE to bake and when I saw this website on 23 things I imediately went to this site. I love everything about Bake Space and how you can talk to memebers and they have a breakfast club which I thought was too cute and they also have recipies that I could follow. I believe its a bakers dream. :)

I chose on Youtube "How to write an A+ Thesis Statement" this is what my standard is about so I thought it was very appropriate. I really like this video and I wish I would of found it earlier because I could of used this in my microteach in my other education class. This video tells you everything you need to know about thesis statements. I might not show the video in class maybe only some of it so I could talk some, but I definately learned a thing a two about thesis statements myself. One thing that I disliked about the video was that is had to cartoons or images. Only the words that the speaker was saying. I thought they could of added some pictures or something to give it a little extra something that students might pay a little more attention to it. This would be an awesome website to apply to the library website. I love youtube and I really do think that it has some great things that teachers and students can use for educational purposes. I have used youtube for years now and most of the time this website always pulls through for me and helps me know how to do something by seeing it or finding a video that I am searching for a class to give an example.

http://www.facebook.com/lauren.g.finley?v=wall&story_fbid=118038238215568 This is my Facebook page that I probably have had for almost three years now. I honestly do think that it is important for Educators to be updated and to have a SocialNetwork like facebook/myspace. I believe that it is important because you can find educators all over the world. There are fan pages to TONS of Educational things. Also, Educators can get in there to check on violence maybe. If someone tells you that someone is making a bomb threat or something on their facebook you can get in there and check and get it taken care of before something happens. I have learned through these sites good and bad things. I have learned that you meet people from all over the world with the same interests as you do. It is a fun way to connect with people. One bad thing is that you have to be careful on what you put on your Facebook or Myspace because since you will be a teacher eyes are watching you all the time. I have had a myspace and I deleted it about a year after I had Facebook. I most definately think Facebook is the better of the two. It is more up-to-date and more socially networked than myspace. I really would not use this in the classroom honestly for any kind of educational purposes unless it was a take home assignment because you are not a loud of these networks in school and the students would not be doing their homework. They would be doing what we like to call "facebooking". So I could see myself have them find a fan page that relates to the topic of the lesson outside of class but nothing that we could do in class.
